Arizona law enforcement is searching for the individual responsible for shooting at wild horses in the Pirates Island district of Salt River on Friday. On Saturday, a 6 month old foal was found dead, having been shot in the neck and head and his genitals removed. Witnesses believe at least two other horses were shot at and are injured.

Maricopa Country Sheriff Joe Arpaio has mobilized law enforcement to search for the perpetrator. Witnesses allege the shooter is a male and, at the time, was wearing green shirt and black shorts.

“This is a crime that goes beyond animal cruelty,” Arpaio said. “Killing an innocent horse is as dangerous as it is disturbing. What else is this person capable of doing? We need to end this senseless slaughter of wild horses.”

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case. If you have any information on the incident call 602-876-1681. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been launched to help in the search for the perpetrator.

We’ll keep updating this article as more information becomes available.
