A motion hearing was held this morning in West Palm Beach District Court for Jorge Garcia, owner of Rancho Garcia, an illegal slaughter farm raided on October 13, 2015. Also the main butcher on the property, Garcia was charged with 4 counts of animal cruelty.
In today’s motion hearing, assistant State Attorney Judith Arco and the Director of PBC Animal Care and Control testified on behalf of the animals who were slaughtered and living in deplorable conditions while on Rancho Garcia. Garcia was not present for the hearing.
The judge noted she was “very concerned about the treatment of animals” and set the following pre-trial conditions:
1. Garcia cannot possess animals.
2. Garcia cannot slaughter animals.
3. Garcia cannot possess firearms.
4. The Palm beach County Sheriffs Office is allowed random weekly inspections of the property.
Garcia’s next court date is set for January 8, 2016. The Inside Rein will follow the trials of all those accused in Florida’s illegal slaughter cases.
