The 41-year-old German rider Christian Ahlmann continued his great run on Sunday at CSI Basel when he picked up his sixth major five-star win in as many weeks.

The leader of the FEI Western European World Cup Qualifying League won the 330,000 CHF Longines Grand Prix CSI5* aboard Codex One with a clever tactic in the jump-off.

Ahlmann was the only one of the three riders to successfully clear the jump-off track without any faults. Codex One, a 14-year-old Hannoverian stallion (Contendro I x Gluecksilz), last showed at the CHI Geneva in December, and picked up a recent victory at Stuttgart in the World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix on November 22nd. Pénélope Leprevost with Vagabond de la Pomme, finished second on four faults, and the defending champion of this class last year, Luciana Diniz of Portugal, was dethroned after two rails down with Fit for Fun in the jump-off to place 3rd.

Ahlmann’s victory marked the first German triumph in CSI Basel 2015 and he received 75,000 Swiss Francs for his effort. Four Swiss riders had good clear first rounds, but no one reached the jump-off after the second round. The best Swiss was Jane Richard Philips with Pablo de Virton in 10th with a rail down at the fourth obstacle. Claudia Gisler missed at an oxer and finished 12th. Martin Fuchs failed at a vertical and was 14th, just in front of Werner Muff with Pollendr, who had a stop and fell back to place 15th.
