World No.2 Show Jumping rider, France’s Simon Delestre, has pulled his horse Hermes Ryan from Olympic competition. The horse has reportedly suffered a micro fracture on his hock, the cause of which remains unknown.

Delestre released the following message on his Facebook page:

“It’s with deepest regret that I announce the forfeit of Hermes Ryan for the Olympic Games. An unfortunate injury that ends all my Olympic dreams, and those of Hermes Ryan’s family but our priority is his health. Our team will take care of him so that he comes back in perfect shape for the next major events. I’ll support my teammates of the French team along their way through these Olympic Games,” read Delestre’s statement on his Facebook page.

Phillipe Rozier will replace Delestre on the French team in Rio.
