They’ve done it again! Charlotte “dressage queen” Dujardin and her partner Valegro have defended their Olympic gold with a freestyle score of 93.875%. The test was executed to near perfection - something we’ve come to expect from the pair.

Dujardin’s freestyle was created specially for the Rio Olympics, featuring music infused with the samba sounds of Rio, expertly scored by Tom Hunt. Whether watching from the couch or from the stands in Brazil, many fans of the record-setting duo shared in Charlotte’s tears as she made her final salute aboard Valegro.

Germany’s Isabelle Werth and the 11-year-old mare Weihegold took home the silver; Werth becoming the most decorated Olympian in equestrian disciplines with 10 medals, surpassing Anky van Grunsven’s 9 medals. Werth and Weihegold scored an 89.071%, the striking mare extremely soft and relaxed throughout the test with her ears flopping about.

Kristina Broring-Sprehe, also of Germany, rode Desperados FRH to a bronze medal, scoring 87.142%.

USA’s Laura Graves narrowly missed out on a medal, coming in 4th just 1.946% from a podium finish on her score of 85.196%.

Crowd favorite for the day was without question 27 year-old Spaniard Severo Jesus Jurado Lopez aboard the 10 year-old chestnut, Lorenzo. Lorenzo, in his first year of Grand Prix competition, has pizzazz in spades, matched by Jurado Lopez infusing some Spanish flare by riding one-handed down the final centerline.

Here are the scores for the top 7 in the individual freestyle:
